(QCOSTARICA) – Ruta 32 is re-opened again, at 8:30am this morning (Tuesday), officials of the Ministerio de Obaras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) giving the green light for traffic to resume through the Braulio Carrillo, between San Jose and Guapiles.

There are still problems on the Ruta 32. Click here for the Policia de Transito latest report on road conditions.

That section of road had been closed since last week when a series of landslides, the latest last Thursday at kilometre 29, kept the road totally closed to vehicular traffic.

However, the road may again be closed if the climatic conditions continue.

The MOPT says some 36 roads have been damaged in the Caribbean and Northern Zone due to bad weather that started last Sunday, June 20, causing rivers to overflow their banks causing flooding in many communities in Limon, and raging waters to damage bridge structures.

The following map based on the latest report by the Comision Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) – the national emergency commission – indicated a RED alert for the entire province of Limon and Saripiqui, in the province of Heredia.

A Yellow alert is for the Northern zone that takes in the areas of Upala, Los CHiles, Guatuso and San Carlos in the province of Alajuela.

A Green alert is for the Central and South Pacific coast that includes Puntarenas, Esparaza, Garabito (Playa Jaco), Aguirre (Quepos), Perez Zeledon, Coto Brus, Corredores and Golfito.

For now, the Central Valley and the province of Guanacaste is under “normal” rainy season conditions.

In total, the CNE says 216 communities have been affected by the devastating rains and flooding.
