Located in Zapote, the new “hipermercado” (mega store) Shoppers opened its doors Saturday providing Costa Ricans with a new shopping alternative.
According to Francisco Jara, a Costa Rican and principal investor in the project, the mega retail store offers household products, groceries, hardware, personal care, office, toys, electronics, baby items and much more.
The new store is similar to Pricesmart in the presentation of products in bulk, but with no membership charges. Jara says the idea is to make it accessible to all consumers.
The store is located on the Circunvalación, ahead of the Zapote rotonda, and also includes a cafeteria, pharmacy and bank.
Shoppers is open from Monday to Sunday from 9am to 9pm, and provides direct jobs for 120 people.
The retail industry seems somewhat restless since last year with the opening of the Maxi Consumo and the expansion of Pricesmart and Walmart.
