Residents of several communities reported on social networks a loud sound and flashes in the sky Tuesday night.

The event was also captured by two cameras of the television news channel 7, Teletica, located on the ruta 27 in  Santa Ana and in Escazu at 9:08 pm.

According to the reports the phenoemon was reported in the North Zone (especially in San Carlos), Paquera, San Rafael de Alajuela, San Rafael de Desamparados, Esparza, Cañas, and Santa Cruz, among others.

People said to have heard a loud rumble in the sky and a flashing light that diminished its brightness until it disappeared.

The Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) – National Meteorological Institute  forecaster Andrés Gamboa said that the sightings may be due to a meteor shower, and that the conditions climatic conditions are favorable to be able to appreciate them.

The Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) – National Commission of Emergencies  – assures that they do not have official reports, nevertheless, are vigilant of the situation.

Some people took advantage of the situation to circulate meteorite images and videos in other countries such as Argentina, material that has already been confirmed on Google that belongs to other countries in the past.

Héctor Chaves, director of the Bomberos (Fire Department), confirmed there were no incidents of a meteorite.
