Costa Rica had a record year for tourism in 2013, reaching a record 2.42 million tourists, a 3.6% increase over 2012, according to the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo (ICT).
And while many stay in hotels or condos in tourist area like Guanacaste, Puntarenas and Limón, a discerning few opt for something more exclusive and private, paying up to US$8.500 per night.
Vacationers looking for something different can find beautiful houses and villas in Costa Rica.
Named “Best Villa Rental Agency” for Costa Rica in 2013 and 2014 by Travel + Leisure magazine, Mead Brown Costa Rica is a boutique vacation rental firm offering professionally managed private villas and homes plus premium condominiums for rent on Playa Flamingo, Jaco Beach, Los Sueños Golf Resort and Marina, Manuel Antonio, Playas del Coco, Playa Ocotal, Dominical, Reserva Conchal on Playa Conchal, Punta Leona, Nosara, Esparza, Santa Teresa, and Herradura.
The company also offers more affordable accommodations, rooms starting at US$75 per night.
According to their website, the homes belong mostly to foreigners who only use them for a few weeks a year. The rest of the time, the the houses are available for rent.
And though it may be hard to believe, many of the houses are booked weeks and months in advance by foreign vacations hoping to live a five start tourist adventure.
