COSTA RICA EXTRA — The annual Telethon (Teletón in Spanish) kicked off this weekend at the San José Palacio, and to the surprise of the children present, a number of national aritsts including Xiomara Ramírez thrilled the kids with her music and life stories,

On stage, one of the children, 15 year-old Óscar Urbina Centeno, stunned the audience with his voice/

In addition to Xiomara, other national artists included the Grupo Percance, singer Vanessa González, all aiming to raise ¢703 million colones.

Xiomara is the younge of seven children, following in the steps of her father Víctor Ramírez and uncle Gerardo Ramírez, musicians in their own right.

The singer says on her Facebook page that she discovered her passion for music at the age of 10, singing wherever and whenver she could, from the local school to festivals.
