QCOSTARICA – This is hilarious. This headline in the article in Mundoescazu.com, “temperatures in Bebedero is similar to putting your hands in the freezer”, in explaining the cold temperatures in the hills of Escazu the last couple of days.

The temperature in the area high up was down to 10 Celsius (50 Fahrenheit). Although it is pretty damn cold up there, Ticos (Costa Ricans) have to be thankful they don’t what cold really is.

Similar cold temperatures have been reported in the higher elevations around the Central Valley.

“Here in Bebedero it is bitterly cold as never before. We climbed the mountain in the morning you could see some plants covered with small pieces of ice,” Marcos Robles, a resident of Bebedero, told Mundoescazu.com.

The strong winds and cold temperatures due to a cold front from the north has affected the entire country. Areas like Alajuela, Heredia, Cartago, Guanacaste and Limon are on “yellow” alert.

Reports of fallen trees and damaged roofs are happening all over the place, utility companies like the CNFL – light and power – report crews are responding to 3 times or more the normal complaints.

In Liberia, on Wednesday, a man was killed when a 50-year-old tree fell on his vehicle, crushing him inside.

The national weather service, the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) is forecasting the strong winds and cold temperatures will continue today, Thursday, and possibly into the weekend.

At Q headquarters in Santa Ana, the strong winds Wednesday fell a tree, taking down the internet and television cable. Still waiting on CableTica to restore service.
