10. Sebastian Street Beach
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Fort Lauderdale has overshadowed Miami as Florida’s favorite gay destination and on Sebastian Street Beach, between Sunrise Boulevard and Las Olas Boulevard, the rainbow flag definitely flies. Mainly popular with men, it is close to the bars, restaurants and nightclubs of Wilton Manors, as well as a plethora of hotels and gay resorts.
9. La Playita
Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica
Also known as Playa Dulce Vida, this small area attracts a mixed audience. It can be reached by climbing the rocks north of Playa Espadilla, but avoid it in the hours before and after high tide, when access is blocked.
Note: even though La Playita used to be the favorite place for sunbathers, growing gentrification and luxury hotels have prohibited you from wearing a bathing suit.

Lovingly dubbed “Ginger Rogers Beach,” this considerable section of the sea shore near Lifeguard Tower 18 in Pacific Palisades is one of the most famous gay beaches in the United States. It is well maintained, easily accessible and offers volleyball courts, gym equipment and access to numerous cycling and walking trails.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Most of the beaches in Mykonos welcome gays, but Super Paradise and Elia attract the most gay audiences. Elia is very relaxed – in fact, it starts to fill up at lunchtime – and there are beach chairs and umbrellas for rent, and nearby cafes have drinks and snacks for sale. Beyond the rocky outcrop there is a quiet cove popular with nudists for sunbathing.
2. Los Muertos Beach
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
One of the largest gay beaches in Latin America, Playa los Muertos tops many of the best lists. It receives its macabre name from the fact that the area was a cemetery before the graves were removed and the area was redeveloped as a beach. Not surprisingly, they sometimes call it “Blue Chairs,” the name of a popular seaside resort at the southern tip of Los Muertos. Thousands of gay sun-lovers come to the area in winter – especially around Christmas and New Year – to absorb the rays, the open-minded and friendly atmosphere and the splendid views of Banderas Bay. You can even see a herd of dolphins or whales.
