Fort Lauderdale has overshadowed Miami as Florida’s favorite gay destination and on Sebastian Street Beach, between Sunrise Boulevard and Las Olas Boulevard, the rainbow flag definitely flies. Mainly popular with men, it is close to the bars, restaurants and nightclubs of Wilton Manors, as well as a plethora of hotels and gay resorts.

Also known as Playa Dulce Vida, this small area attracts a mixed audience. It can be reached by climbing the rocks north of Playa Espadilla, but avoid it in the hours before and after high tide, when access is blocked.

Note: even though La Playita used to be the favorite place for sunbathers, growing gentrification and luxury hotels have prohibited you from wearing a bathing suit.

Even if it is not the Carnival, “Farme Gay”, east of Rua Farme de Amoedo, is the epicenter of gay life in Rio, and a great place to eat with your eyes to the “ Muscular barbies ”who walk between the Posto (lifeguard tower) 8 and 9, next to the Ipanema Plaza Hotel that welcomes gays

After 9 p.m., the action moves to half a dozen gay bars and clubs in the area.

The proximity to Barcelona makes Bassa Rodona Beach a popular gay spot all year round. (The megapopular Sitges Gay Carnival is celebrated in February.) However, the high season is from the beginning of July to the beginning of October.

To find the gay section of the beach, follow the crowds of muscular men towards the third beach area, almost next to the Calipolis Hotel. Beers and cocktails are for sale throughout the day, with a nearby picnic area, perfect for lunch.

4. Pines Beach

Fire Island, New York

Fire Island has attracted LGBT New Yorkers for almost a century. The island’s two gay enclaves, Pines and Cherry Grove, have their own fans, but Pines earns points for being quieter, being less commercially developed and being architecturally more interesting.

Most of the beaches in Mykonos welcome gays, but Super Paradise and Elia attract the most gay audiences. Elia is very relaxed – in fact, it starts to fill up at lunchtime – and there are beach chairs and umbrellas for rent, and nearby cafes have drinks and snacks for sale. Beyond the rocky outcrop there is a quiet cove popular with nudists for sunbathing.

2. Los Muertos Beach

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

One of the largest gay beaches in Latin America, Playa los Muertos tops many of the best lists. It receives its macabre name from the fact that the area was a cemetery before the graves were removed and the area was redeveloped as a beach. Not surprisingly, they sometimes call it “Blue Chairs,” the name of a popular seaside resort at the southern tip of Los Muertos. Thousands of gay sun-lovers come to the area in winter – especially around Christmas and New Year – to absorb the rays, the open-minded and friendly atmosphere and the splendid views of Banderas Bay. You can even see a herd of dolphins or whales.

When the sun goes down, head to one of the nightclubs a few steps away in the Romantic Zone, the gay neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta.

1. Hilton Beach

Tel Aviv, Israel

This sweeping expanse of crystalline blue is named after the Hilton hotel at one of its ends, but the area has been a popular place to flirt since the 1950s. And unlike many gay beaches, it is a Walking distance from the city center. You will meet men from all over the world, some on vacation, others recently immigrated to the city, but all happy to start a conversation with a new friend. Fridays and Saturdays are the busiest days; For a quieter experience, step on its sands during the week.

In mid-June, Tel Aviv Pride, the only parade of Gay Pride endorsed in the Middle East, has more than one hundred thousand partiers marching towards the beach in search of live music, dancing, drinks and others. Sponsored by the local government, the event is completely free of corporate sponsors and anyone can join the parade when it gets in the way.
