QCOSTARICA – Starting this morning, Monday, November 23 the Instituto Nacional de Seguros (INS) is collecting on the 2106 Marchamo, the vehicle circulation permit for the coming year.
As expected there is not exciting, just the same increases in the mandatory insurance and various taxes, including property tax, that form the overall cost.

Payment of the 2016 marchamo is due by December 31, 2015, after that the traffic police will fining drivers behind the wheel without the marchamo. There no longer is a grace period.
For vehicle that do not have their Riteve – vehicle inspection – current, the marchamo cannot be paid. The INS system will indicate the missing Riteve. Keep in mind that it takes about 2 ‘working’ days for the Riteve inspection to show up on the INS system. Don’t wait until the final days of December to get the Riteve inspection.
The marchamo can no be paid at almost 1,900 different points of sale across the country, including banks, other financial institutions, as well as online.
Some even offer incentives to pay your marchamo with them, like the BAC San Jose, offering its customers no interest and the chance to win trip to Punta Cana, plus spending money and other weekly prizes. At the Banco Nacional (BN), five winners will get cool million colones each to pay for gas for a year. Shop around.
Starting January 1, added to the overall cost of the marchamo is late fees and interest.
