The Instituto de Apoyo al Hombre (Fundiapho) says that 20% of applications for protection measures are by men

Q COSTA RICA – The Instituto de Apoyo al Hombre (Fundiapho) – Institute for Support to Men – questions the procedures for granting precautionary measures in cases of domestic violence.

They claim they affect innocent men.

The Fundiapho says that although in many cases it is possible to protect women from possible aggression, the fact is that the law is also used for other purposes.

This ranges from hiding an infidelity to making use of assets (bank accounts, etc) without waiting for the outcome of an alleged case of domestic violence.

According to Fundiapho the law is not applied in the same way for men and women, since in cases of men victims of aggression the requirements are more strict when requesting precautionary measures.

The Fundiapho further asserts that men are only condemned for being men.

Data held by the Fundiapho reveals that 20% of applications for protection measures are by men, that is to say in the country, yearly about 10,000 men request protection.
