Today, Friday, a dozen U.S. universities will make academic presentations at the Crowne Plaza (Coribici) Hotel, in La Sabana, as a part of the International Student Network. Undergraduate presentations will be made from 6 to 8 p.m. and postgraduate from 7 to 9 p.m.
Visitors to the fair will find information regarding student fees, admission processes, travel documents needed and possible scholarships. Entry of the academic fair will be free but visitors must register at www.studentlane.com
The San José fair is part of Latin Expo 2013 that begin in Guayaquil, Ecuador on the 10th, followed by Quito (Ecuador) on the 12th, Colombia’s Medellin and Bogota, on the 14th and 16th, respectively and Sao Paulo, Brazil on the 18th.
The U.S. Embassy San José will present a seminar on student visa procedures.
Participating will be Murray State University, Oklahoma City University, Drury University, California State University–East Bay, Drexel University and The College of Saint Rose, among others.
“Currently, U.S. universities are seeking students for courses in technology, engineering and science since jobs in these areas are growing in the United States. Meanwhile, universities have experienced a decline in the number of students who graduate in these specialties,” according to the International Student Network.
US President Barack Obama as well as a number of educators have watched this decline with alarm as the US lead in technology shrinks. Foreign students more often leave the U.S. after graduation than before to practice what they learned in their own countries.
