The Deputy Minister of Revenue, Nogui Acosta, resigned his position on Saturday after it became known that a family business owed the Ministry of Finance some ¢10 million colones for the value added tax (VAT), and ¢15 million to the CCSS for employer labor fees.
“We felt it was important to let it be known that Don Nogui Acosta, Deputy Minister of Finance, has submitted his resignation. He will be with us until October 15 in the ministry, so that the transition can be, in the circumstances, as simple as possible,” said Rocio Aguilar at the press conference with Acosta at her side.
The Diario Extra broke the story last Thursday, reporting that the company HG Bambora, which administered Acosta’s family business, Nogui’s Bar and Restaurant, located in Tamarindo, owed on sales tax and worker contributions to the social security.
Acosta told the press that the taxes have been paid and a payment arrangement was made with the CCSS for the worker fees.
This is the second resignation of the Carlos Alvarado government last weekend, the first was that of Labor Minister, Steven Nuñez, who resigned after having asked for a Transito official for an escort.
