The Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico (Ovsicori) – Vulcanological and Seismological Observatory – reported an eruption of 2,000 meters (6,500 feet) above the crater of the Poás volcano and at 4,708 meters (15,400 feet) above sea level.

The event was presented this Sunday at 8:59 pm, and remained “in progress” to 10:30 pm, but did not generate ash fall or smell of sulfur.

The Ovsicori described it as a “hydrothermal eruption

After having closed during a year and four months for the constant activity, which began in Semana Santa (Holy Week) of 2017, the colossus opened its doors to the public on August 2018, but with new rules for visitors.

For example, tickets to appreciate its scenic beauty of the Poas National Park are now purchased online and people can enter at different times and in controlled groups.

As part of the changes when visiting the Colossus, people now encounter a larger cratic lagoon and a reinforced security system, as it is an active volcano.
