The announcement was made by senior vice-president and director general of Walmart Central America, Carlos Arroyo, during a visit by President Luis Guillermo Solís, who just got back from a promotion tour of the U.S.

“At Walmart we support the economic and social development of Costa Rica, we are a company committed to integrity and legal compliance. We invest in Costa Rica because we want to continue to open opportunities for its associates, suppliers and our customers, in order to have access to quality products and good prices,” said Arroyo.

According to the company, the expansion for this year is expected to result in an increase in sales of 4.3% and generate 2.400 direct jobs in the country.

Closing the year, Walmart will have 13.400 employees and 227 points of sale (stores), service centers, and warehouse distribution centres.
