QCOSTARICA — 135 foreigners arrived in Costa Rica on Thursday after being expelled by US President Donald Trump, among them were 65 children and two pregnant women.
The group of migrants is made up of citizens from Afghanistan (9), Armenia (17), Azerbaijan (6), China (26), Georgia (8), Ghana (2), Iran (5), Jordan (4), Kazakhstan (3), Russia (8), Turkey (10), Uzbekistan (30) and Vietnam (7).
“The United States government analyzed and investigated each of the people and assured that they have no link or security alert,” said Omer Badilla, Costa Rica’s Vice Minister of the Interior and Director of Immigration.
Upon arrival, the migrants were transferred by bus to the Centro de Atención Temporal de Migrantes (Catem) – Temporary Migrant Care Center, located in the southern part of the country, Corredores, in the province of Puntarenas, where they will be registered and subjected to biometric controls before beginning the procedures for their repatriation.
Badilla explained that the majority complete families.
Costa Rica will not assume the costs of care for migrants deported by the United States and transferred to the country, according to Foreign Minister Arnoldo André Tinoco.
The expenses will be covered by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with funding from the US government.
