The Policia de Tránsito is a police body operating within the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) – Ministry of Public Works and Transport.
It is the only police body in the country that deal with traffic issues – fines (save for a small number of Fuerza Publica officials being trained, authorized and monitored by Transito), attend to traffic accidents, pull over a driver, confiscate a vehicle and/or plates for a traffic violation, etc… all to do with traffic.
