COSTA RICA NEWS — Since Tuesday many drivers ignore danger forced by the collapse on Ruta 239, which connects Purriscal and Parrita, when some 20 metres of road caved in following a landslide.

The situation is further complicated with another landslide at kilometre 87, washing away some 40 metres of road.

Two buses, one from San José headed to Quepos and the other from Puriscal to Tulin, were trapped between the landslides. Fortunately there were no injuries and the some 80 passengers managed to get to their destinations.

Transport officials are warning of the risk in passing through the section of  caved in section of road.

The Ruta 239 is the “back road” that connects Puriscal to the Costanera, south of Playa Hermosa (Puntarenas) in the area of Esterillos.

The Consejo Nacional de Vialidad (Conavi) is expected to announce a work schedule for the repairs.
