The Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE) says it has eliminated the “fair use policy” to its customers, that is it no longer it is limited data download over its 4G LTE network to 6GB.

The measure was put into place in April of this year when ICE found that some 2% of its customers were abusing the network. Under the policy, when a customer reached the data transfer limit of 6Gb, it would automatically drop the speed to the 3G network. Customers would receive a text message. The high speed connection would resume at the start of the next billing period.

However, yesterday’s statement to eliminate the limit is in contradiction to the initial statements made by authorized spokespersons for the institution, defending the limits.
