Moín Dock Workers To Strike Against APM Container Terminal and Concession

COSTA RICA NEWS — Some 1.900 Moín docks workers could go on strike starting today, protesting the concession and construction the Terminal de Contenedores de Moín (Limón) container terminal to be operated by APM terminals.

The leader of the workers union, the Sindicato de Trabajadores de Japdeva (Sintrajap), Ronaldo Blear, said they oppose the contract between the government the Dutch company.

Blear says that new terminal would be unfair competition to the Administración Portuaria y Desarrollo Económico de la Vertiente Atlántica (Japdeva) that currently runs the ports in Limón.

Last week, Costa Rica’s Supreme Court ruled in favour of the Costa Rican government and APM Terminals, rejecting an appeal against the decisions of the Tribunal Contencioso Administrativo (Administrative Court) that had ruled the concession contract with APM was legal and within the law.
