Vehicular inspection could be reduced by 24% to 66%

QCOSTARICA — With the new proposal from the regulator of public services, the Autoridad Reguladora de Servicios Públicos (Aresep), we will see a drop in the cost of the annual Revisión Técnica Vehicular (RTV) – vehicular technical inspection, but an increase in the re-inspection, paying up to double, if the vehicle does not pass the first attempt.

The pricing model to be applied is based on a new methodology approved by the Aresep board of directors, which “distributes the operating costs according to the average service times required by each vehicle in the inspection and re-inspection services, and the administrative costs,” said Paolo Varela, Superintendent of Transportation.

While we can expect to see a decrease of between 24% to 66% in the first inspection, the re-inspection processes would cost up to double the price, depending on the category of the vehicle, such as motorcycles, as they would have an increase of up to 115.65%.

“It is important to indicate that in order to carry out this proposal, information from the Road Safety Council (Cosevi) is required, and that the current operator (DEKRA) also presented a series of actions,” said the Superintendent.

In addition, new amounts are proposed for vehicles that were not included in the tariff, such as trailer-type vehicles, or special service buses that require replacement of documents or registration changes.

The DEKRA company said it is “evaluating in detail the terms of the proposal with the objective of understanding its impact and guaranteeing that our operations remain aligned with quality and safety standards.”
