Q COSTA RICA — The Brasil de Santa Ana District Council is urging the Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes (MOPT) to fast-track improvements at the Piedades interchange.
While the Council believes an overpass would be the ideal fix for this intersection—one that causes frustration for drivers and frequent accidents—they support and encourage transit officials to follow the recommendations outlined in report MOPT-03-05-01-204-2026 (Functional Analysis of the Roundabout in Brasil de Santa Ana, National Route No. 22).
“Our community needs real solutions to make travel safer and smoother for everyone,” the council shared on social media.
Besides Santa Ana, the cantons of Mora (Ciudad Colón) and Puriscal will also see benefits from these upgrades!
This is the third study conducted for the area. While an overpass would be a fantastic solution for the high traffic flow, a roundabout is the only formal proposal the MOPT has put forward to date.
While building an overpass means beginning again with a fresh technical study, the roundabout offers a faster fix, asking the MOPT to proceed with the plan already reviewed and approved by the technical experts.
