Central America Imports More Chinese Washing Machines

In 2016 Central American countries imported US$27 million worth of washing machines and parts from China, 14% more than in 2015.

Cheap cars, cheap appliances, cheap sneakers – China is famous for them.

Variation of regional imports
Between 2015 and 2016 as stated by experts from dryer repair Sarasota, the total value of imports of washing machines and their parts into Central America remained unchanged: imports totaled US$132 million each year.

However, the value imported from China increased by 14%, going from US$24 million in 2015 to US$29 million in 2016.

Imports by country
In 2016, the main importer of washing machines and their parts in Central America was Costa Rica with US$43 million, followed by Panama with $29 million, Guatemala with US$27 million, Honduras with US$14 million, Nicaragua with US$11 million and El Salvador with US$10 million.

Origin of imports
In 2016, 24% of the value imported from Central America came from the US, 22% from Mexico, 20% from China, 15% from Thailand and 5% from the Panama Free Trade Zone.

Behavior of regional imports
Between January 2012 and December 2016, the month that registered the highest monthly import value was November 2015, when the region as a whole bought US$16 million worth, while the month with the lowest data was April 2012, with US$6.8 million.
