Despite the erection of the level crossing, drivers continue to make illegal left turns

(QCOSTARICA) No surprise here, drivers continue to turn left at the La Sabana intersection despite the erection of a level crossing this week.

The left turn for eastbound traffic has been prohibited since 2013, when changes were made to the intersection in front of the National Gym (Gimnasio Nacional), between McDonald’s and the Universal store.

The director of traffic at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (Ministerio de Obras Publicays y Transportes – MOPT), José Roldan, said surveillance cameras in the area show that drivers coming from the Contraloria (that is eastbound traffic) keep making a left turn despite the prohibition and barriers.

Roland is appealing to the wisdom of the drivers, as they can not have Tránsitos (traffic officials) at all times.

The following video made Friday, June 19, by Ameliarueda.com shows the problem that has existed and continues. In addition (near the end), the video demonstrates the failure of the sensors to drop the level crossing at the approach of the train.
