Gas price hike approved; diesel dropping

The new prices at the pumps the day after their publication in La Gaceta

Q COSTA RICA – The regulatory authority, the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (ARESEP), approved on Friday an increase of ¢22 colones per liter of super gasoline and ¢1 in regular, while diesel fuel will have a significant reduction of ¢53 colones per liter.

The day following publication in the official government newsletter, La Gaceta, the price at the pumps for a liter of super gasoline will go from ¢737 to ¢759, regular from ¢708 to ¢709, and that of diesel from ¢636 to ¢583.

There is also a reduction in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), also known as propane.

The publication in the La Gaceta is expected by mid-week in the coming week.

Fuel prices in Costa Rica are regulated. The prices of fuel are figured out by ARESEP, the government agency that oversees the price and availability of public services, using a formula based on the global cost of oil and the dollar exchange rate. Adjustments to fuel prices are made on a monthly basis.
