Q COSTA RICA — How many McDonald’s are there in Costa Rica? Soon to be 81, located in Puntarenas, announced Arcos Dorados, the franchisee operating McDonald’s in 21 countries across Latin America and the Caribbean.
This new opening reaffirms the company’s commitment to the Costa Rica’s socioeconomic growth, the creation of formal employment, and the implementation of initiatives that promote increasingly sustainable development.
The Puntarenas location is creating 36 new job opportunities for residents of the province; six of these are management positions, and for 19 employees, this marks their first formal job.
“We are very excited about our arrival in Puntarenas. With this restaurant, we want to offer our customers an experience featuring a varied, delicious, and high-quality menu, while also creating new job opportunities for our new neighbors,” commented Marianela Ureña, Communications Manager for Arcos Dorados Costa Rica.
The new restaurant is located in El Roble de Puntarenas, on the Costanera Highway, southwest of Alimentos Prosalud, offering Drive-Thru (AutoMac), McDelivery, self-service digital kiosks, McCafé, seating for 56 diners, and an outdoor play area, allowing customers to enjoy the various service channels that characterize the brand.
The grand opening for the Puntarenas McDonald’s will take place on Saturday, October 17.
Costa Rica has approximately 15.26 McDonald’s locations per million people, or roughly one McDonald’s for every 65,504 residents.
This density places Costa Rica among the highest per capita for McDonald’s in Latin America, driven by 80 operating outlets serving a total national population of roughly 5.17 million people.
Historically, Costa Rica holds a significant place in the franchise’s timeline, having opened its very first store in San José in 1970—making it only the third country outside of the United States and its territories to welcome the global fast-food chain.
