QCOSTARICA — A third complaint for political belligerence has been filed against President Rodrigo Chaves, this one by seven citizens expressing their discontent.
The complainants argued that Chaves issued messages with possible electoral content, in which he alluded to the image of a jaguar, the symbol of a party in the process of registration.
The case was referred from the Specialized Section of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to the Electoral Inspectorate.
If political belligerence is determined to have occurred, the Constitution establishes the corresponding sanctions, although it is the responsibility of the TSE to determine their scope.

If the offense is committed by the president, a minister, or a magistrate, the Tribunal will simply inform the Legislative Assembly of the outcome of the investigation.
The second complaint was filed earlier this month when the TSE announced the opening of an investigation following complaints filed by a citizen named Solera and representatives of the political parties, Liberación Nacional (PLN), Acción Ciudadana (PAC) and Frente Amplio (FA).
Political belligerence is defined as any action by an official who participates in political-electoral activities or performs acts that favor a political party.
