COSTA RICA NEWS — Five officials of the Fuerza Publica (police), an Immigration officer, and a traffic policeman were arrested this weeks and accused of brutally beating a suspect in the theft of a bullet proof jacket from the immigration offices. They were also charged with filing a false police report as a cover-up.
According to the report by the Organismo de Investigacion Judicial (OIJ) – criminal investigative agency, the 32-year-old suspect was arrested July 29 in Quepos following the theft of the bullet proof vest. His mother and a cousin followed him to the lock-up where, they said, they could hear him being mistreated.
OIJ charged that cops put a sack over his head while they beat him, then turned him loose. But the matter did not end there — he filed a complaint against the arresting officers.
