burros

QCOSTARICA — They don’t how or where, but what is clear is that the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS) will be buying donkeys (burros in Spanish) for use in the Punta Burica area.

According to CCCS (or Caja) medical director, Dra. María Eugenia Villalta, this is the first time the state social security is making a bid to buy burros, although years back they did for horses.

Dr. Villalta says the entity is analyzing the purchase, that includes among the list of requirements, the cost of feeding and maintaining the animals.

The burros will be used by medical staff to move across the area to provice medical care for some 500 patients who require medical check ups and medications.

The people of Burica for the most part require treatment for skin lesions, parasite and diarrheal deseases and snakebites.

Punta Burica is located south of Golfito on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, near the Panama border.
