Q COSTA RICA – The Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) – National Emergency Commission – issued a green alert across the country due to El Niño Phenomenon, and asked multiple organizations to help out.

Costa Rica is preparing for the eventual impact of the El Niño phenomenon

The El Niño Phenomenon is when the Pacific Ocean’s water heats up, resulting in decreased rain on the West Coast and Central Valley.

Werner Stolz, director of the national weather service, the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN), said we’ll see the effects of this phenomenon until next year.

While the CNE and IMN warn of hot and dry weather, the first weeks of this rainy season have been wet throughout most the country.

This Thursday, Tropical Wave No. 6 is due to pass, bringing more rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
