The government of Luis Guillermo Solís sent today a solidarity message to China in the wake of a 6.5 magnitude earthquate that rocked Yunnan province.

Costa Rica’s Foreign Ministry expressed in a communique the deep feeling of solidarity and condolences with the people and government of the People’s Republic of China for the fatalities, the wounded and victims of the quake.

Costa Rica also expressed “the firm conviction that, once again, the Chinese people will be able to overcome the losses caused by the quake.”

Chinese authorities reported that at least 398 people were killed and 1,801 wounded, 80,000 houses were destroyed and another 124,000 seriously damaged by the quake.
