TODAY NICARAGUA – Lack of control over the use of materials and job insecurity are two of the problems which would be resolved if the National Construction Council is created, suggests the private sector.

Informality in the construction sector is growing and with it “… security policies are becoming more flexible, they start to be neglected and then the potential for situations – such as increasing the minimum wage outside the scope of productivity and of consensus – becomes much larger,” says the chairman of the Superior Council of Private Enterprise (COSEP), Joseph Adam Aguerri.

Aguerri told Elnuevodiario.com.ni that “… in the National Construction Council we have to be discussing what is happening with the use of materials, what steps to take in order to avoid potential negative effects in the case of accidents … ”

However, industrial engineer and exasesor at the Ministry of Labour (Mitrab), Oscar Berrios said “… In order to avoid such situations there are already certain regulations and ministry staff should supervise the work and safety conditions in this type of work, including the presence of emergency relief personnel required in case of risky sitations, in order to avoid the death of workers. ”
