The noon edition of TeleNoticias on Friday was perhaps for, Pilar Cisneros, the hardest. Being her last day, she ended a 22 year career in news, starting a journalist, becoming news c0-director and anchor.

Doña Pilar had announced in June her decision to step down as channel 7 news anchor and co-director, but that didn’t make the send off any easier, as she held back the tears during her final broadcast.

Doña Pilar arrived in Costa Rica in 1972 from her native Peru, graduating in journalism at the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR), she developed into an experienced journalist, spending most of her professional life at Teletica, channel 7.

Missing, the Friday noon “on air” send off was, was Ignacio Santos, channel 7 news co-director, anchor of the evening news and Doña Pilar’s professional better half for many years. Santos is said to be out of San José attending to family commitments, missing the on air send off.

Although stepping down from the news, Doña Pilar is not leaving channel 7, for on Monday, September 2, she will be producing Telectica’s new baby –  name has been withheld by the station so as not to spoil the surprise – that the station has been nurturing for the last six months.
