QCOSTARICA – Daniel Soley, Viceministro de la Presidencia (Deputy Minister of the Presidency) is the first to fall from grace in the administration of Luis Guillermo Solís, that began on May 8, 2014.
Soley tendered his resignation Saturday, five days after it was revealed in La Nacion that the now former official offered Attorney General, Ana Lorena Brenes, with little over a year to in her post, an ambassadorship.
Since the report, political and social sectors demanded the departure of Soley for making the offer to Brenes, this while President Solís was on an official trip to China. One of the most vocal for the removal of Soley was PAC founder Ottón Solís, who said that if Soley was not removed, it meant the President had issued the order (for the Brenes appointment).
The same groups called also called on the resignation of the Ministro de la Presidencia, Melvin Jiménez.
On his return, the President said he was not aware of the offer made to Brenes and promised to investigate.
The Soley resignation was made public by Casa Presidencial at 6:00pm Saturday.
Neither Soley, Jiménez or Brenes have made any statements publicly on the matter.
Soley, a supporter of the Partido Liberacion Nacional (PLN) and taking an active part in the 2014 campaign to elect Johnny Araya, was the last of the appointments by President Solís and his Partido Accion Cuidadana (PAC) administration.
