Being a former president himself and the son of a three time former president and whose spitting image is on Costa Rica’s currency, and an almost presidential candidate in this election, would probably not be enough proof to cast his vote without proper ID.

Nope.

Former president José María Figueres Olsen (1994-1998) said he get a new “cedula”, Costa Rica’s formal and most important piece of identification, for he had forgotten his in Spain – and did  want not risk not being able to vote today.

Uh, what Costa Rican do you know what never has his or her cedula with them?

Whatever.

The son of “Don Pepe” was late in getting to the voting centre in Desamparados.

Accounts say that Figueres was set to vote at 7am, but didn’t get to the voting centre until 7:45am – for he has to get himself a new cedula.

In 45 minutes? Being a former president does have some benefits at the Registro Civil, but probably not at the voting booth.
