(QCOSTARICA) The Constitutional Court of Costa Rica (Sala Constitucional) gave the Hospital Mexico three months to solve the waiting list for  catheterization procedures.

The Court ordered the head of the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS), Maria del Rocio Saenz and the institution’s medical director, Maria Eugenia Bonilla Villalta, as well the hospital’s director, Douglas Montero, and the head of Cardiology, among others, to begin reducing the waiting time of patients for the procedure

For his part, Dr. Montero told La Nacion that he was not aware of the Court decision and that the waiting time has already been reduced to about 11 months.

The doctor said the time could be even lower as the lists are updated, all part of a plan the hospital has put into place at the beginning of last month.

The plan was implemented after Sofia Bogantes Ledezma, head of cardiology at the hospital, revealed on April 15 that patients were dying while waiting for the procedure.
