The director of Migración y Extranjería (immigration service), Katia Rodríguez, will be back on the job on Friday following a forced two month vacation

In December, Security minister, Mario Zamora, sent Rodríguez on vacation, fueling rumours of a replacement.

On Tuesday, Marcela Chacón, viceministra de Gobernación, confirmed that the immigration director would be at work and that any replacement would be when the minister decides.

Rodríguez, on her way out in December, said it was strange that she was being asked to take a vacation during one of the busiest periods of the immigration service, alluding that she was probably going to be replaced. “Due to some tough decisions I have taken I have few friends in the department”, Rodríguez told the press two months ago.

In the meantine Freddy Montero, the subdirector de Migración, has been overseeing the department.
