The seven month old child neglected the father in a car with the windows rolled for more almost three hours, in the parking lot of the bank branch where he worked, died this morning.

The death was confirmed by the director of the Hospital Nacional de Niños (Children’s Hospital), Rodolfo Hernández, where the infant was admitted to in serious condition Tuesday afternoon.

The cause of death is severe neurological damage due to exposure to extreme heat, from being inside the hot parked car, explained Hernández.

This is the first of such a case to occur in Costa Rica.

According to the report by La Nacion, and the preliminary report by the Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ), the father forgot the child in the car while he went inside at his office at the Banco Nacional branch in Alajuela.
