Nicaragua: Step Backwards On Clean Energy

gobierno-frena-la-energia-limpiaTODAY NICARAGUA – The private sector has rejected the action taken by the Ministry of Energy to reduce the amount of energy generated from wind and bagasse which is contributed to the national grid.

This measure which seeks to reduce the energy input of these sectors comes at a time when wind and bagasse plants are operating at full capacity, therefore there is a direct impact on their finances. Furthermore, “… The country would be consuming more thermal energy, which would involve the use of more fuel. ”

The president of the Superior Council of Private Enterprise, José Adán Aguerri told Laprensa.com.ni that “… We want to understand what is behind this measure, we do not want to speculate, we want to sit down, and understand this decision being taken by the Cargo Dispatch Center. ” In order to do this we will be having a meeting soon with the new head of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, Salvador Mansell, to clarify concerns.

“… Official records indicate that in the months of January to July wind energy increased its share to between 17.43% and 26.45% of the total energy matrix. Meanwhile, power generation from bagasse last year contributed 11.75% of the energy consumed nationally. ”
