Q COSTA RICA — A computer system outage on Saturday, August 1, caused delays in immigration control processes nationwide, especially at Juan Santamaría International (San José) Airport, forcing the cancellation of a flight.
After the initial announcement of the system outage around noon, the problems with the immigration control system escalated. It wasn’t until 3:10 p.m. that immigration reported the system had been restored.
Not only was the JetBlue flight canceled, but 36 other passengers missed their flights.
Service continued to be provided following established protocols for these types of situations.
According to the Judicial Branch’s DTIC (Department of Information and Communications Technologies), they had scheduled maintenance on their internet connections, which not only affected internal services but is also impacting immigration services.
This is the second time in a month that such an incident has occurred. On July 12, a similar situation occurred at the airport terminal.
This system failure impacts the entry and exit of people at airports and other border crossings.
