Only in Costa Rica: Doctor’s Appointment for 2022?

No, you didn’t read it wrong and there is no mistype, the attached receipt confirms that a Caja (state medical system) has a doctor’s appointment at 11am on April 12, 2022.

The attachment was posted on Facebook yesterday.

The appointment is at the Tony Facio Hospital.

As Pilar Cisneros writes on her Facebook page, “Lack of seriousness…it should be in the Guiness of World Records…it’s a shame!”

“Everything here is going from bad to worse!”, say Pilar.

We couldn’t say it better.

  1. I thought that it was ridiculous to wait one year to see an orthopedist for a referral to a physical therapist because I needed PT for a problem that limits my mobility. Actually, I still think that it is ridiculous, but this one is really out there. There is no circumstance that could possibly justify giving an appointment eight-and-a-half years away. Actually, I’m surprised that anyone at the Caja has an appointment book that far ahead – I had to make an extra visit (one of three just for an appointment) to the clinic to get an appointment a year away.

The Caja and public hospitals are desperately in need of an efficiency initiative. While private hospitals have you check in on the day of surgery, the public hospitals admit you and then schedule surgery, at times over a month after admission while you use bed space that could better serve someone else.
