The landslide, caused by the rains Tuesday afternoon, occurred some 10 kilometres east of the Zurqui tunnel a part of the road that winds through the Braulio Carrillo national park.

Alternates to the Ruta 32 is through Cartago and Turrialba, reconnecting to the Ruta 32 around Siqurirres; and through Vara Blanca north of Heredia, to Sarapiqui de Heredi, reconnecting to the Ruta 32 at Guapiles. Both alternates are expected to be greatly congested.

Traffic officials are suggesting postponing trips to/from Limón until the afternoon, allowing time for crews to complete cleaning up and traffic to start moving again.
