QCOSTARIA – A landslide forcing the closure of the on Ruta 32 (San José – Limón) has hampered traffic for thousands, as traffic officials were force to close the road Tuesday night.
CONAVI work crews were expected to be on site this morning Wednesday, to start clearing the road with the expectation of re-opening before noon.
The landslide, caused by the rains Tuesday afternoon, occurred some 10 kilometres east of the Zurqui tunnel a part of the road that winds through the Braulio Carrillo national park.
Alternates to the Ruta 32 is through Cartago and Turrialba, reconnecting to the Ruta 32 around Siqurirres; and through Vara Blanca north of Heredia, to Sarapiqui de Heredi, reconnecting to the Ruta 32 at Guapiles. Both alternates are expected to be greatly congested.
Traffic officials are suggesting postponing trips to/from Limón until the afternoon, allowing time for crews to complete cleaning up and traffic to start moving again.
