It’s clear, Costa Ricans want change in their Government and rightly so! Between the PLN’s Chinchilla Administration, the worst ever Administration in the history of Costa Rica according to Oscar Arias and the “lily-livered” effort of the current PLN Party’s Presidential Candidate, Johnny Araya, it is no wonder that Costa Ricans want change.
The PLN, through various personalities, rather than its centrist party policy, has damaged Costa Rica beyond belief.
I want change as a Canadian and Naturalized Costa Rican, who has made Costa Rica my home for sixteen years. Yes, I will be “holding my nose” and voting on Sunday for Johnny Araya as the President; not that I want Johnny Araya to be President, but for the reason that I don’t want Guillermo Solis of the PAC Party to be President. My vote will be for the more centrist party policy of the PLN Party, rather than the leftist policies of the PAC Party. I would much prefer Mr. Petroni (sic), the First Vice Presidential Candidate for the PLN Party and former CEO of Dos Pinos, to be the President.
In many of my most recent blogs published here, I have sighted the danger of electing a PAC Party President and giving any credence to their left-wing, unionist support policies, which a decade ago with Otton Solis as the Leader and
Presidential Candidate of the PAC Party were designated “Chavista” in nature.
I see the same policies continuing should Guillermo Solis be elected as President, which I suspect will be the case and I suspect that Intel, in their decision to leave Costa Rica, taking with them 3500 well-paid jobs, sees the same. Don’t think for a moment that this exodus of foreign corporations will stop here.
The “writing is on the wall”, a PAC Administration will tax foreign corporations at a much higher tax rate and there will be a continuing exodus of these foreign corporations from Costa Rica, many with large call centers, employing many Costa Ricans and paying above average wages. These jobs will disappear from Costa Rica. There are many other attractive jurisdictions for these foreign corporations to flee to from a tax perspective and flee they will. Will it be Proctor & Gamble, or HP next? I’d rather not see it happen.
Without a doubt, Costa Rica will be in an economic slump with Guillermo Solis as President and the PAC Party in “power”, for the next eight years, the four years of office and the four following years to recover. Beware Costa Ricans and think carefully before you vote on Sunday.

The problem here is horrible work ethic which is caused by the ridiculous labor laws(screwing the employER) and piss poor education system where “literacy” implies you can write your name and stealing isn’t a problem, it’s a lifestyle.
I hope these well groomed cave people are proud of themselves. They had a dream scenario and chance to develop. They blew it. It’s their idiot parents and families faults for the most part. No drive. No didsipline.
The remind me of the likes of the now bankrupt professional athletes and child stars loitering in the so-called first world. Costa Rica isn’t a developing nation. It’s a rotting nation.
