QCOSTARICA – The woman – nicknamed “tragateles” – who hid a flat screen between her legs  stealing it from a Guapiles store, has proven to also be skilled at avoiding capture by police.  See original report here.

Marisel Rodríguez, spokesperson for the Organismo de Investigacion Judicial (OIJ), explained that the woman managed to flee police Friday night, by slipping away through the back of the property of a friend which borders a creek and the Purral river, where she was staying, in Purral Goicoechea.

Apparently, learning that police were lurking around the house, she lifted one of the strips of the tin roof, to make her escape.

Rodríguez confirmed that the house belongs to a friend of the woman, who identity remains undisclosed by police. The spokesperson added that police know exactly who the woman is and expect to have her in custody in the coming days.

The video of the theft of the flat screen was caught on a store security camera went viral across Latin America last week, both on the social media and traditional television news reports, after the OIJ disclosed the video to the public last Tuesday.

Stumped OIJ officials decided to let the public help them in the search for the woman, who is alleged to have committed other thefts at Guapiles stores.

In the video we see the woman easily placing a box containing a 16 inch flat screen tv between her legs and walk out of the store undetected. The theft occurred on November 11, 2014 at the M Express store, in the town Guapiles (east of San José).

Rodríguez added that a second woman, an accomplice seen in the security videos, was apprehended by police on Saturday in another case of theft and is currently being held at the El Buen Pastor jail for women.
