QCOSTARICA — We won’t be having any electricity rationing today, Friday, May 17, as well as on the weekend of Saturday, May 18 and Sunday, May 19.

It is anticipated that the Instituto Costarricense de Electridicad (ICE) – state power and light company – will make an announcement today about ending the alert, with no plans for rationing next week.

“With the consolidation of the rainy season, the eventual lifting of the rationing alert will be assessed in the coming days, according to the Aresep (Public Services Regulatory Authority) protocol. Until that moment, it will remain active,” said Roberto Quirós, manager of electricity at ICE.

If not, we can expect schedules and areas affected by electricity rationing starting Monday, May 20.

ICE suspended rationing this week because national energy reserves have improved thanks to the rains resulting in increased flows into the Arenal, Cachí, and Reventazón reservoirs, in addition to purchases in the Regional Electricity Market (MER).
