(Q24N) In November 2017, trekkers from across Scotland will take on the challenge of hiking through tropical rainforest in Costa Rica.

This epic trek, hiking up close to volcanoes and high among the aerial canopy, is all to raise money for Marie Curie Nurses in Scotland. The charity is looking for participants from all over Scotland to sign up and this is your chance to be part of it.

The nine-day trip includes six days of trekking, during which you will explore incredible jungle terrain, trek to the top of amazing volcanic craters, as well as a quick dip in the Pacific Ocean to celebrate the end of your challenge.

Community Fundraiser, Helen Zollinger, said: “A range of people aged between 25 and 64 have already signed up for the trek. Everyone has their own motivation for getting involved, be it a family member who was cared for by a Marie Curie nurse, a way to meet like-minded people or a reason to get fit and healthy. The trek is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see some spectacular landscapes and striking wildlife, while raising money to provide care and support for people living with a terminal illness.”

One of the trekkers signed up for Costa Rica, Estelle Nicol, has already completed three overseas challenges for Marie Curie. She explained: “We were extremely fortunate to have the services of a Marie Curie nurse when my mum was poorly in 2009. There are no words to describe the compassion, love and support she showed to both us as a family and mum as a patient.

“My fundraising started with the desire to repay Marie Curie for the support they had given, but has grown over the years. The challenge is not just about the fundraising, but also about attaining the standard of fitness required to participate. On every trek I have participated in, I have met wonderful, like-minded people and life-long friends, all with their own story to tell and all with a common goal – the rewards far outweigh the challenge! All I would say is sign up and come along!”
