Having remained in the sidelines up to now, on Thursday former president Abel Pacheco (2002-2006) endorsed Partido Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC) presidential candidate, Rodolfo Piza.
The Pacheco support was confirmed by the PUSC press office.
Pacheco, the PUSC president who left office seven years ago, said that although he has kept away from politics, he will support Piza for being “honest, brave and having the ability to move the country forward”.
According to statement, former president Pacheco said, “I’ve been out of politics for several years, but an honest, determined and capable candidate makes it worth returning to raise the PUSC banner of equality and justice”.
Pacheco also called on all Costa Ricans to vote wisely.
For his part, Piza, said,”Don Abel has always been a figure tied to social principles, very close to the Costa Rican people and his support demonstrates his committment to the Costa Rican way of honesty, balance and decsion”.
Pacheco is the only former president of the PUSC party to endorse Rodolfo Piza.
Two other former PUSC presidents, Miguel Angel Rodriguez (1998-2002) and Rafael Angel Calderon (1990-1994) have been involved in scandals of corruption and embezzlement and are not likely to take an active public part in the PUSC party politics.
