QCOSTARICA – Last month, April 2015, some 406 earthquakes shook the country, of which only 12 were felt by the population, according to the report by OVSICORI-UNA.

The month started off with a 4.8 earthquake located 6 km southeast of San Gerardo de Dota, Perez Zeledon. Ten minutes later, a 5.2 hit the same area, followed by some 71 aftershocks, only 4 of them over a 3.

The region a similar seismic swarm was responsible for the June 1983 earthquake, a 6.1 that lasted 40 seconds. A 5.1 The premonitory earthquake prevented a greater tragedy, as people abandoned the area before the main event.
