COSTA RICA NEWS – The Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep)  has ordered the withdrawl of concession against the Deldú bus company, that provides regular service between San José and Peñas Blancas (Nicaragua border).

The Aresep says the company has been found charges of fares not set by the regulator and has ordered the Consejo de Transporte Público (CTP) to revoke the concession. The revocation is to be complete within three months from the June 26 resolution.

According to Carolina Mora, spokesperson for the Aresep, it was found that on three separate occasions the company charged a fare different than the established for the route, and despite having being fined in the past, the company relapsed, leading to the revocation of concession order.

Now it is up to the CTP to follow through with revocation.

According to the Aresep during this year, the regulator has opened nine investigations for unauthorized fare collection, following a series of inspections and complaints of users.

In January of this year the Tralapa bus company was fined ¢7 million colones for the same reason and the Aresep is following up cases against against the Amsa de Moravia, where users have reported fare irregularities on several occasions.

The CTP is the transit authority to set out the bus routes and concession contracts, while the Aresep is responsible for setting fares.

In September bus route concessions come up for renewal.
