This is up from the numbers in April when the speeds ranged between 2.15 and 1.49.

The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of prime time Netflix performance on particular ISPs (internet service providers), and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network.

How does this compare to countries in Latin America?

According to Netflix, in Panama the top provider  in September was Cable Onda offering a speed of 3.25 Mbps. In the other Central American countries, Netflix is available, but the countries are not currently indexed.

In Colombia, ETB offered 2.99; Ecuador’s Neflife was 2.86; in Brazil, Live TIM had a Mbps of 3.49; and in Argentina, Telecentro offered a high speed of 3.56.

In the rest of the continent, Canada’s Bell Canada – Fiber Optic offered a top speed of 3.78; in the United States, Verizon FiOS offered a 3.75; and in Mexico, Totalplay offered 3.92.

How Netflix Calculates The Rankings
The Netflix ISP Speed Index lists the average prime time bitrate for Netflix content streamed to Netflix members during a particular month. For ‘Prime Time’, we calculate the average bitrate of Netflix content in megabits per second (Mbps) streamed by Netflix members per ISP. We measure the speed via all available end user devices. For a small number of devices, we cannot calculate the exact bitrates and streaming via cellular networks is exempted from our measurements. The speed indicated in the Netflix ISP Speed Index is not a measure of the maximum throughput or the maximum capacity of an ISP.
