Last year at the same location, we raised over $3,000 for schools in need and we are hopeful, with your support, to do the same or better this year.

How was the money spent?
Over $2000 went to purchasing workbooks and school supplies for 16 schools with 250 to 300 children, all primary public schools, about half in the indigenous community of Zona Sur.

$800 went to updating the material we developed for the Juntas of Education training programs. This material was then handed over to Fundación Gente, the group now responsible for training Juntas throughout Costa Rica. We are grateful to the Canadian Embassy for assistance with this project.

$288 went to initial expenses (renting a special all – terrain vehicle and horses) to access the remote school in Sarkli in the Talamanca to assess the need for a new roof an  outhouses.

What are plans for this year?
$3,000 for the roofing project for the Sarkli school, including materials, transportation and labour. A  new project, focusing on high schools with the highest drop-out rate. With your support, we would hope to provide needed infrastructure, defined by the students themselves, that has the greatest value to improve their learning environment and pride in school. We are currently looking at three schools – in Alajuelita, Limón and Tibas.

How can you help?
The ‘Canada Day’ celebration is our only fundraiser of the year. Therefore this event needs your support in the following ways:
