The Comisión Nacional de Emergencias (CNE) – National Emergency Commission – declared on Sunday a green alert for the Central Valley for heavy rains and thunderstorms. The alert is to continue today Monday.
The alert came after many rivers, streams, creeks and culverts in the Central Valley not being hable to handle the amount of water, causing flooding.
The national weather service, the Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) had called for heavy downpours for the weekend.
The CNE said it attended some 55 incidents due to rains, of which 40 were due to flooding in Heredia and the southwest of the Central Valley.
The CNE calls on the population to stay alert and take precautions in areas prone to flooding and/or new rivers.
Landslides is another problem from the heavy rains.
